Life is better on a bike!

Name Shift

Many of you may not have noticed the recent change to the name of my blog, but a few of you may have and it’s for those few that I feel a need to explain.

Part of my goal for the blog and website is to grow it. Into what, I’m not sure yet. I personally want a bike jersey and maybe water bottles with the blog name and logo (something else I’m working on) for advertising. I would also like to be in a position to present the blog to bike tour companies for possible sponsoring of trips in return for covering the trip on this blog. Additionally, I would like to have more of a connection with other bike blogs as well as be a general source of bike info.

For any of that to occur I need to have a name that is tied exclusively to my blog and website. In checking recently I found another blog with the same name as mine, For the Love of Bikes. When I picked the name, For the Love of Bikes, I didn’t find anything else with that name – so I claimed it, because I liked it and proceeded with building this blog and website.

It appears the other blog with that name started the same year, 2009. I don’t know which started first, it doesn’t matter. I don’t want to proceed with For the Love of Bikes only to have the other blog challenge my right to use the name and I don’t want to challenge her.

To go forward this site and blog need its own name. All for the Love of Bikes is not used anywhere else: SO I’M CLAIMING IT NOW.

All for the Love of Bikesâ„¢ is now the official name of the blog. Not a big deal or change, but I wanted to explain. Maybe no one has even noticed, if so just move on to the next post. Winking smile

I’ve come up with these “logos” so far; one I created, the others I paid a whopping $5 total for at Fiverr. This logo thing is in its infancy, and as you can probably tell I don’t have a clue about any of this. I have no background/knowledge/experience in doing any of this – blog/website included – but for better or worse it hasn’t stopped me.

Here’s what I have so far, what do you think – any of them any good or should I throw another $5 at Fiverr and get 5 more?

I noticed the same name website 🙂 Good idea fixing that on the front end. So your “name” is (All for the love of bikes) and your web link is (loveofbikes)? I noticed that in the logo’s. I enjoy reading your blog. Specific info on equipment, tech etc would be welcome. Also when you tour the company, shuttles etc would be helpful.

    Thanks

Hi Bobby, Thanks for the comment and suggestions. I’m staying with the url loveofbikes because it’s shorter and what I’ve been using for about 2 years. I own it and if allfortheloveofbikes is available to change it would be a hassle and I tried to avoid those. Plus, I think it’s still descriptive and representative of the name – reflecting the core of what the blog/website is about.

I agree it’s nice when reports include who they use, where they stay, etc. When we use a company, I name them and give a link to their website as a service to the readers – I don’t receive any compensation from the companies and never have. I don’t mention shuttling because it’s part of the tour package and that’s listed in the tour company’s info about the tour. When we rode the KATY trail last year self-supported I believe I described how we got back to our car (train). Regardless, I hope if you or any other reader has a specific question about a tour, you’ll ask in the comments, that way other readers that may have the same question can get the info too.

Regarding equipment and tech, reviews about equipment/tech I use or have used is one of my plans for the blog this year so I’ll dive in soon with a post about something. Equipment and bike technology is also an area where readers could do a guest post about equipment/tech they use – anyone interested?

Thanks for the feedback Bobby, I appreciate it.

I love the logo that is top right. I’m a sucker for a blue sky and green grass and I just like the “casual” bike. I also like that it has a rack which implies you are riding for a reason and that it’s a girl’s bike:). Good luck on the sponsorships.

Kim, Me too – and it’s the one I did. Thanks!

    Susan,

Oops, I had to re-read Kim’s post. I’m sorry but I disagree. I hope I don’t offend but the top right is my least favorite. I think that’s because I don’t like the look of the old fashioned bike. The Pedaler’s Jamboree, which is happening on the Katy Trail over Memorial Day weekend, has a old fashioned sort of picture/logo. While I think the event is neat and I am anxious to attend for the first time, I don’t necessarily like their logo. RE your’s, I would be more likely to put any of the others on the window or bumper of my truck…..and would display the one you created only to support your cause. I wish you well on your endevour. I admit I am a little envious.

No worries, all opinions are valid and welcome. Thanks for sharing yours.

The Pedaler’s Jamboree is awesome – you’ll love it (even with the old-fashioned logo;) Kim

I like the top left and top right logos. Most of my cycling is commuting and laid back, so I like the laid back picture with the cargo rack.

Thanks for giving your opinion, Brian, I appreciate it.

Also, congratulations on your one year anniversary of commuting to work by bike, that’s quite the feat! Best wishes on your 2nd year!
