Among other things yesterday, we visited the Marche de Vieux Port, the farmers market in Old Quebec.
If I said, “look at the size of those ..” (fill in the blank), or something about the beauty, variety and price of the fruits, vegetables, oils, vinegars, cheese, bread, candy, cakes, etc., I said it a thousand times yesterday.
The quality and quantity of it all is unbelievable!
Much of what is sold at the Market is grown on the Ile d’ Orleans, the agri-center of Quebec City. We visited the Ile d’ Orleans and saw mile after mile of farms, apple, raspberry and strawberry stands along the mighty St. Lawrence river.
This area is abundant in good soil and moisture and the results are impressive. Everywhere you go, restaurants use the local fruits and vegetables grown.
Seriously, you can’t imagine. A bag of beautiful and locally grown apples that had to have been 20lbs, possibly 25, sold for $8. As did a comparable bag of carrots and cucumbers.
You have no excuse not to eat your fruits and veggies if you live in this area.
Holy moly- the food looks AMAZING!!!! I would eat healthy,fresh food ALL THE TIME if I had access to that deliciousness!

I know, me too! I couldn’t get over it all, I guess I thought with the cold and snow the growing season would be short?? Not sure what I thought, but I was amazed by what I saw! We bought apples and raspberries, local goat cheeses, bread, wine and a basket with 4 different types of smallish tomatoes – had it for lunch several days. It was heavenly.
Glad you had a great time. Practice any French there? 🙂 We’ve cycle-toured on our own several different trips. Have been on some Velo Quebec bike routes between Montreal and Quebec City.
Quebec cheeses are wonderful and in my opinion several are on the same high quality, complexity and richness as those from France.
My husband used his 9th grade French a couple of times. 🙂 Once when we had taken a wrong turn and another time when we were trying to locate a bathroom – both in Day 5. Both funny, one successful. Yes, tried several of the cheeses, all excellent. Loved Quebec, will definitely return for more biking. We are new to touring so have started out with supported tours, did you find it worked well touring there on your own?
