Life is better on a bike!

Whoosh

One of my favorite things about autumn is riding through leaves. Having them fall around you while pedaling is even better.

A glorious fall day here, hope you are having the same.

30 Days of Biking–Day 8

I waited until just before dark to ride. Mostly because of the atrocious wind, but also because of how I was feeling after a dentist appointment in the afternoon.

So off I go on to my “have to” ride because of my pledge to ride every day in April. I expected it to be maybe not miserable – because no time on the bike is miserable – but not fun or enjoyable.

It was actually fun and beyond enjoyable. Really the word that best describes tonight’s ride is magical. The sky was blue and orange, the air moved between very still and very gusty, and only a handful of us were out. Two boys fishing, several playing basketball, a couple of women walking and me. We knew what the people in their homes looking outside didn’t know and what I hadn’t known 5 minutes before: It wasn’t only not bad outside, it was perfect. An evening in the spring, at that magical time, twilight.

One of those rides I didn’t want to start, yet once I was riding, didn’t want to stop.

Again, I am reminded that there are times when a ride doesn’t seem right or fun or sensible, but that is precisely when some of the best rides happen.

Day 8: 3 miles

30 Days of Biking-Day 2

Everything yesterday was, today wasn’t. Yesterday was sunny and warm, today was rainy and cold with gusty north winds.

I also managed to pick the time when it started raining the hardest, along with a little thunder for special effect.

I didn’t ride far, or for long, but I rode. Most importantly, I had fun. So I am pedaling down the road, with the rain pelting me and I’m cold — but I’m smiling! I never seem to remember how much fun riding in dismal weather is or I would do it more often. Seriously, it’s fun! There is something about being out there when it is cold, gray and wet that is kind of thrilling and invigorating. It happened on our rides in Denver last year too. It was cold and rainy and I was sick, but we rode everyday and it was a blast!

I would never have ridden today if it wasn’t for my pledge to ride every day, so thank you 30daysofbiking.

Take the Pledge

Take the pledge to ride a bike each and every day in the month of April. May is Bike to Work (and School) month, but April has become ride your bike month. I took the pledge by signing up at 30 Days of Biking.

By taking the pledge, we agree to bike every single day in the month of April – no matter how long or short the ride is – the point is to just RIDE.

I’m not actually sure I’ll be able to ride every single day because we’re going to be traveling in April and although it’s a bike tour I don’t know if we’ll have access to bikes each and every day we’re away.

My attitude is if I have a way to ride, I’ll have the will! One thing is for sure, by taking the pledge I’ll bike more than I normally would.

What do you have to lose, why don’t you take the pledge.
